The Learning Support Program (LSP) has been designed to help students who are struggling with their courses and provide them with academic tutoring outside of class for as long as is needed to achieve success in their course(s).
The Program
-

The student will remain in and attend all classes in which they are registered.
- Students will continue to be responsible for writing all tests and completing all assignments in all classes while the LSP is in effect.
- A member of the Student Affairs Office will attend the sessions and monitor the student’s work and attendance.
- The LSP should run for a minimum of two weeks. After that time a review will be completed to determine how much more time a student should remain in the LSP If the decision is to end the program then Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and the Principal are to be notified of the reasons for ending the LSP.
Our LSP Tutors will:
- Work with the student for four one-hour sessions each week outside of class time.
- Supervise the completion of homework and assignments.
- Work with no more than four students in a group in each of the one hour sessions.
- Complete the LSP Tracking Sheet after each session.
- The student will take the Tracking Sheet and show the teacher the next day.
- The teacher will comment where needed and initial the Tracking Sheet.
- Write a review at the end of the first two weeks that reflects the student’s progress with the completion of homework, assignments and tests and on any areas of weakness identified in the referral. The Tracking Sheet will serve as a basis for the review.
Who is Eligible?
- Any LIA enrolled student.
Students may be referred to the LSP program in any of the following ways:
- Students may refer themselves.
- Following the administration of the English and Mathematics Placement tests at the beginning of the school year, the Principal may refer students to the LSP.
- A teacher may refer a student as early as two weeks into a semester or at any time after the opening two weeks.
- Student performance at Mid-Term will be examined and students may be referred to the LSP by the Principal at that time.
- Student attendance will be closely monitored. Often poor attendance follows a second-language student’s struggle with courses. A referral to the LSP may help the student.
